Basic installation of Apache Server on CentOS

Installing Apache 2.2.15 HTTP Server on CentOS 6

• yum install httpd

• chkconfig httpd on    (or instead of on you can type ) chkconfig –level 235 httpd on (httpd apache will now run on runlevel 2,3,5 every time you boot)

• chkconfig | grep httpd    (Let’s be sure that httpd will run on runlevel 2,3,5)                                                                                                                                                                                       httpd              0:off    1:off    2:on    3:on    4:off    5:on    6:off

• cat /etc/sysconfig/iptables    (check your iptables and make sure that port 80 tcp is open)                                                                                                                                                                  -A INPUT -m state –state NEW -m tcp -p tcp –dport 80 -j ACCEPT

• service start httpd    (start httpd)

• Open your browser and type your localhost 127.0.0.1 and you should see Apache Test Page
